Methodology

In total 22,332 citizens in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States of America were interviewed face-to-face or by telephone between 19 June and 17 August, 2009 (the exception being Japan where the fieldwork was conducted online). Polling was conducted by the international polling firm GlobeScan and its research partners in each country. In 7 of the 20 countries, the sample was limited to major urban areas. The margin of error per country ranges from +/-2.2 to 4.8 percent, 19 times out of 20.
